The Infant Jesus Clinical Hospital – Trauma Treatment Center located at W. Lindley Street in Warsaw provides highly specialized outpatient and inpatient health care services, within the framework of medical specialties offered by hospital clinics, wards, units, and surgeries. The Hospital disposes of 683 beds. Its equipment is modern, and its pride is the highly qualified medical staff. Provision of health care services is combined with scientific and educational activities. Students and resident practitioners are educated there. The Hospital is located in the center of Warsaw. It is a multi-profile facility, and traumatic specialties predominate.

Challenge

The IT solutions applied so far in the Hospital did not make required functionalities available. Majority of them were dedicated entirely to settlement and control of service implementation. In view of the above, a decision has been made to purchase the system covering all areas of Hospital activities, along with the necessary IT equipment. The decision on implementing the investment project was reached in 2007. It included also network modernization. The key objective of implementing the Hospital IT System (Szpitalny System Informatyczny - SSI) was the reduction of administrative costs, resulting from the creation of consistent, uniform, integrated and efficient working environment. That is why the project covered almost all areas of Hospital activities. Improvement in promptness and quality of reporting required by management bodies and paymasters was another expectation.

Solution

The contract concluded with the Asseco Poland S.A. covered supply and implementation of the InfoMedica Hospital IT System almost within the whole range of functionalities, covering both white section (medical services), as well as grey section (administrative processes) within the Hospital. Within the framework of project implementation, 56 InfoMedica system modules have been configured and installed, and the Hospital was provided with complete documentation including all user and administrator manuals. The Asseco Poland S.A. carried out also all works relating to supply and installation of equipment and system software, as well as extension and modernization of the whole network within the Hospital area. Following completion of the implementation, the Hospital has been covered with original supervision system. Over 1,000 users access the system via 300 workstations.

Benefits for the client

Administrative and management systems included in the InfoMedica package, and implemented within the framework of the project, are responsible for gathering and processing any information concerning economic events taking place in the Hospital. They are applied to run complete bookkeeping and finance management activities, implement management accounting, prepare medical service pricelists and offers, e.g. for the NFZ (the National Health Fund) and other paymasters for health care benefits. Contracts and agreements are monitored, as well as revenues from their implementation. Detailed current activity based costing is carried out. All the modules are mutually integrated in a way ensuring information flow between relevant Hospital organizational units equipped with IT system. Medical systems included within the InfoMedica package are applied in admission wards, Hospital wards, diagnostic labs, laboratories, operating rooms, surgeries, hospital clinics and departments, hospital pharmacy and medical statistics units. They are responsible for efficient gathering and distribution of any medical information relating to patient treatment course, they provide statistical reports required by the NFZ and institutions and centers dealing with medical statistics.
